Mrs. Angela McLean Selected as the February Heart of Service Award Recipient

Mrs. Vickie Rewis has selected Mrs. Angela McLean as the Heart of Service Award recipient for the month of February. The Heart of Service Award is for someone who is devoted to his/her organization and has the willingness to serve others. It is an award given to people that love their community; because of that, their influence extends outside these walls.

I immediately thought of Angela McLean for this award. She goes above and beyond the call of duty on a daily basis. She is an excellent teacher and devotes countless hours preparing her lessons and helping students succeed. She treats all of her students with respect and tries to get them to do their best to help them learn concepts and do well on a test or in her class. She also strives to equip them to be successful outside of the classroom. I think she has a great sense of humor which is very helpful with what we do here. She has been teaching for 20 years and all of her teaching experience is in the subject she is most passionate about--MATH! This is her second year at BCHS. She has her Education Specialist Degree in Mathematics and was selected as the STAR Teacher at Appling County High School three times--2016, 2019, and 2020. She even has a math tutoring website that is available for students to get math help online.

Mrs. McLean loves math and she tries to take the time to carefully explain and break down the content in a way students can understand. Another teacher asked her recently for one of her favorite quotes to tell students. Mrs. McLean replied, “When they ask me why I’m making them do this, I tell them it’s because I always want to make you better.”

Below are some quotes from Mrs. McLean’s students:

“She explains clearly and holds you accountable.”

“She is strict but cares about her students and wants us to learn.”

“She was the best math teacher I have ever had. Not only is she great at teaching math, but she knows how to relate with students and help us with the application of difficult concepts.”

“You might not like her at first, but she wins you over when you realize you’re actually learning math.”

I believe that Mrs. McLean is very deserving of this honor because she cares about her students and wants them to succeed. She is an asset to Bacon County High School students and staff. Congratulations to Mrs. McLean and thanks for all you do for our school!
